College preparatory schools
(generally abbreviated as preparatory school or prep school) are a type of high school that provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in college and beyond. In Japan, college preparatory schools are called yobikō (), which means a school that is used to progress to another school.On the contrary, some use the label as a promotional tool without offering programs different from those of a conventional high school. In the United States, there are preparatory schools for public, private, and charter universities that can be parochial or secular. Preparatory schools began before the Civil War, when there were no public schools above the elementary or elementary level anywhere in the United States. Later, Kōtō Jogakkō (), high school for girls (189), and Jitsugyō Gakkō (), vocational schools (192), were included among the chūtōgakkō and were legally considered schools of the same level as a school for boys.
Japanese preparatory schools began as chūgakkō (), secondary schools for boys, which were founded after the secondary education law of 1886.
How Many College Preparatory Schools Are There in Central Colorado?

We believe that all students should have access to an education that is academically excellent and encompasses their identities. Our core beliefs of fairness, achievement and perseverance ensure that our students have all the skills they need to succeed. In central Colorado, there are several college preparatory schools that offer students an excellent education and prepare them for college.Preparatory schools for public and charter universities are typically connected to a local school district and are based throughout the district rather than the nearest school zone. In the 21st century, there have also been some lawsuits that connect public first and last year high schools in each region, expanding education for university admission. Unlike parochial (Catholic) schools, independent preparatory schools are not governed by a religious organization, and students are generally not required to receive instruction in a particular religion. Unlike six-year preparatory schools, the best municipal institute (three-year schools) in each school zone and some high-ranking private secondary schools (idem) are also considered shingakuko ().
While independent preparatory schools in the United States are not subject to government oversight or regulation, many are accredited by one of six regional educational institution accreditation agencies.
